CHRISTMAS IN CONNECTICUT AT THE OLD STATE HOUSE

It’s cold, blustery and the calendar says Christmas is right around the corner. So if folks are looking for something fun to do today, bring your lunch to the Old State House in Hartford for a special lecture, “Christmas in Connecticut: Then and Now,” moderated by author and radio and television personality (and Shad favorite) Diane Smith. The event runs from noon to 1pm.

Did you know Connecticut was the first New England state to declare Christmas a state holiday? Follow 300 years of holiday celebrations through Puritan condemnations, drunken revels and a Victorian “Christmas makeover” to arrive at today’s yuletide traditions.
