MALLOY SAYS HE ‘GETS’ FAIRFIELD COUNTY; DOES THAT MEAN REJECTION OF INCOME TAX INCREASE?

Gov.-elect Dan Malloy—born and bred in Stamford—has made it clear he understands and is sensitive to the needs of Fairfield County. In multiple appearances before business leaders and others, he pledges to make jobs priority number one. But what is needed for job creation is Hartford might not be what is needed in Stamford or elsewhere in Fairfield County.

That conundrum will make addressing the massive budget deficit very interesting. Last weekend, state Speaker of the House Chris Donovan floated the idea of increasing income taxes on those making more than $250,000 a year. If Malloy is in fact, sensitive to Fairfield County, and there is no reason to believe he isn’t, will he ever go along with that? This legislative session will be very interesting indeed.
