There have been many instances during the tenure of Gov. M. Jodi Rell in which the public is left wondering whether she was not telling the truth or was simply clueless. The guess here is that the case of how Connecticut got literally wiped off the map of a regional tourism effort is an example of the latter.
Despite what the governor said on a local radio show, it was her administration that directed the dues for “Discover New England” be cut. The result was Connecticut being deleted from the international marketing campaign’s map—as if we didn’t even exist. Rell told WNPR’s John Dankosky (a Shad favorite) that it was the state’s culture and tourism commission’s decision to cut the dues; that she simply directed cuts be made. As always, The Hartford Courant’s Rick Green has the whole story.
