For several legislative sessions now, supporters of mandatory, paid sick days for employees of companies of a certain size have tried in vain to get the legislation passed. For one reason or another (opponents of the bill in the speaker’s and/or the governor’s office), it has failed. But this year, backers believe the stars have aligned with the main “star” being new Gov. Dannel Malloy. Malloy recently told a gathering of business advocates that he would sign such a bill if it reached his desk.
Jon Green, executive director of the Working Families Party, was a guest of Laurie Perez’ and mine on “The Real Story” that taped Thursday night and airs Sunday. Green says the bill makes sense for public health and would cost very little to businesses in the state.
