Former and most-likely future United State Senate candidate Linda McMahon has won the straw poll of the Connecticut Tea Party Patriots. Out of 54 votes cast, McMahon, who spent $55 million on her losing effort against Democrat Richard Blumenthal, received 15 in the poll. Former candidate Peter Schiff, 14; former US Rep. Rob Simmons and Tom Foley, the unsuccessful Republican gubernatorial nominee in 2010, each had 6 votes. State Senator and millionaire Scott Franz netted 5 and Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton received 4. Businessman and tea party favorite Mark Greenberg received 3 votes, even though he has already announced his intention to run for Congress in the 5th District. Former Lt. Gov. Michael Fedele had the backing of 1 tea party member in the straw poll.
The biggest surprise? That there are 54 people in Connecticut who would actually join a group called the Tea Party Patriots.
