“Unhappiness is the hunger to get; happiness is the hunger to give… If the individual should set out for a single day to give happiness, to make life happier, brighter and sweeter, not for himself but for others, he would find a wondrous revelation of what happiness really is.” –William George Jordan

I wanted to let all my Hanging Shad readers, and Facebook friends know that I have been offered and I have accepted the position of Regional Communications Officer for Oxfam America. Oxfam America is the non-government organization (NGO) dedicated to ending poverty and injustice in this country and around the world.  Besides the fact that I think we very well may have broken the planet, the time has come for me to do my small part—and yes, I still have that bit of idealism in me despite all life’s twists, turns, challenges and attempts to turn me cynical. This mission at Oxfam, at this time, is right for me.

I’ll be based in downtown Boston. My first day is a week from today. I will be back and forth between Boston and Hartford in the next few weeks, tying up loose ends.

Meanwhile, The Hanging Shad will continue (albeit in a scaled-down form at least until I get settled in Boston). The Shad started as just something fun but has developed into something very special to me. With today’s technology (and with an ever-growing audience), there is no reason I can’t continue to bring some insight, inside scoops, fun and levity to the political discourse in Connecticut. I intend to stay in touch with everyone.

Thanks to everyone for reading The Shad—and please continue to do so.

I’m shippin’ up to Boston.
