He is not alone. Many people are bound to do what state Rep. David Labriola (R-Naugatuck) did—use the death of the notorious Osama Bin Laden to push one’s political agenda. But that doesn’t excuse it. It’s fairly pathetic and definitely inappropriate. Labriola tries to make a connection between the death of Bin Laden and the Cheshire home-invasion criminals.
There are so many ways Labriola’s attempted connection fails, it’s hard to know where to start. First, the Navy SEALS were fired upon—they had no chance to take Bin Laden alive and then debate whether he should rot in a hell-hole prison. One could reasonably conclude that if the Cheshire police were fired upon, they would have shot and killed the two home invaders.
Putting aside whether one supports the death penalty or not, lawmakers shouldn’t use the welcomed killing of the world’s most notorious murderer to push their own agenda.
