Gov. Dannel Malloy’s national TV appearance on CNBC’s financial show “Squawk Box” got some coverage but not as much as the layoff notices going out to state workers this week. If we’re looking for a hint on what’s to come on this union-layoff mess and whether there is a way out, we may want to listen carefully to what Malloy said.
He referred to the unions’ ranks and file’s rejection of the negotiated concessions deal as “Round one.” Again, the key here is: “I wouldn’t be surprised to see another round in which people can figure this whole they think out and under that it would be better to put the state on a firm financial footing and to rearrange our relationship with our fellow state employees so that it’s sustainable.”
As The Shad detailed on NBC-Connecticut and the FOX-Connecticut Morning News, there is a way out.
Malloy seems to be thinking the same thing.
