Republican candidate for Attorney General Martha Dean is now advocating “how to use a gun” training in schools, scouts and elsewhere. The Hartford Courant’s fine columnist Rick Green gets it right:

Dean is locked in a battle for the GOP nomination for AG against Ross Garber who seized on Dean’s love of firearms: “As the state’s chief civil legal officer, the Attorney General should focus on being a strong advocate for the state and its citizens, not pushing a personal political agenda. It is certainly not the attorney general’s job to give our schoolchildren guns,” Garber said.

All of this makes one wonder whether the Republicans seeking the AG’s office are engaged in a race to the right. If so, it should provide some comfort to Democrat George Jepsen—a reasonable, very intelligent and experienced candidate.
