A Big Debate Week

Some folks tell me they are suffering from “debate-fatigue,” symptoms of which include smirking, eye-rolling and sarcastic, forced laughter. People with DS may want to find a deserted island for the week as the rest of us political junkies get ready for a fantastic stretch of contests.

Right out the gate Monday is round three of the epic and nationally-watched US Senate match-up in Connecticut between Republican Linda McMahon and Democrat Chris Murphy. The two face off at The Garde Arts Center in New London. Murphy won the first two based solely on his grasp of policy, willingness to be somewhat specific and his strong positions on women’s issues (McMahon supported the Blunt Amendment although she didn’t seem to really know what it was in the last debate).

Last week, McMahon continued her near-slanderous attack on Murphy, accusing him of getting a sweetheart deal from Webster Bank while serving on a financial oversight committee. It apparently matters not that she has no evidence and every financial expert within asking distance has looked at the rate he got on the mortgage and says there was no special treatment.

During the last debate, a reporter asked the two candidates if they would change the tone of the race in the remaining weeks to stop personally attacking each other. Murphy sounded like he was all for it, McMahon came out with this:

Monday night’s debate at The Garde is sponsored by the Connecticut Broadcasters Association and WTNH-TV.
