The Hartford Courant’s Jon Lender is out this morning with a story about two arrests of Republican gubernatorial front-runner and former Ambassador to Ireland Tom Foley.
The question is: Does anyone care? There’s no sure way to tell the circumstances involved but any hint of a domestic dispute or as Foley’s ex-wife alleges, forcing her car off the road, is troubling and could very well resonate with the electorate.
Fighting domestic violence has been a major issue at the Capitol recently with Speaker of the House Chris Donovan appointing a special commission chair by state Rep. Mae Flexer. A major news conference complete with family members of those who died in domestic incidents, received wide coverage. Many voters rightly have a zero tolerance for domestic violence.
But then again, 11th hour revelations of a drunk driving arrest of George W. Bush didn’t seem to damage him. He won.
