In what is probably the worst-kept secret in Connecticut, 2010 Republican gubernatorial nominee Tom Foley will seek the GOP nod again and will announce that intention Tuesday in Bridgeport The Hanging Shad has learned. Foley came within a whisker of winning last time, losing to Gov. Dannel Malloy in one of the closest election in decades. Foley lost by less than 7,000 votes out of nearly 1.2 million cast (third party candidate Thomas Marsh received 17, 000).
The Greenwich multimillionaire, Bush fundraiser and former ambassador to Ireland joins a field that includes state Senate Minority Leader John McKinney of Fairfield, Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton and state Sen. Toni Boucher of Wilton. Although he has not declared, Gov. Malloy is expected to seek reelection.
