Connecticut’s Battle With Indian Tribes Over Online Lending Reaches Massachusetts

Indian tribes across the country have enlisted a conservative advocacy group to battle the state of Connecticut over online, payday lending. The Institute for Liberty (IFL) has taken up the Native Americans effort to be free from state regulation.

The IFL sent The Shad a posted card reading, “Gov. Malloy, Don’t threaten our sovereignty” and a website called “NativeKidsFirst.com.” It’s a bit odd because The Hanging Shad’s home office is located in Boston. Why the group sent a mailing calling out Gov. Malloy to a Massachusetts address is unknown.

A similar dispute in New York was settled with a favorable ruling for the state.
