Anecdotally, it seems that tractor-trailer trucks have been crashing on Connecticut’s highways for years. It seems at least once a week, a truck overturns and spills salsa, lumber, chickens or in the most recent case, candy (Snickers for the house!). Well, apparently Gov. Rell has had enough and is ordering a crackdown on unsafe truckers.
Kudos for the governor for acting to try to stop this life-threatening nonsense. Then again, while working for the Senate Democrats a couple years ago, The Shad had a colleague who used to say in these situations, “People rob banks quite often. We don’t pass new anti-bank robbery laws [or order a special crackdown on bank robbers].”
