One of the nastier among a number of very nasty races this election season is the contest for the Republican nomination for attorney general. Party-endorsed candidate Martha Dean has a news conference scheduled for this afternoon to discuss a lawsuit she is filing against opponent Ross Garber. Dean is obviously feeling the heat of Garber picking up multiple endorsements, many of them from the party establishment. The Shad thinks that if Garber got in the race earlier and didn’t wait for his sister-in-law Democrat Susan Bysiewicz to get kicked out of the race by the courts, he’d be the party’s endorsed candidate.
Garber fired a pre-emptive strike against Dean’s lawsuit yesterday, releasing an open letter to Dean. In it, he extols the virtues of free speech and the fact that Dean has repeatedly said current AG Richard Blumenthal is too litigious. Yet here she is filing a lawsuit, presumably about Garber’s campaign advertising.
