Tough Day in Trump World: Travel Ban Nixed, SCOTUS Nominee ‘Disheartened,’ Conway Sells Ivanka?

Thursday could very well be the worst day for Donald Trump since being inaugurated as our 45th president. Most importantly, the three-judge panel issued a complete repudiation of the Trump immigration and refugee travel ban. Also, Trump’s own Supreme Court nominee smacked Trump’s criticism of his fellow jurists. Then, in a much smaller but typical occurrence, a presidential counsellor is in hot water for publicly pushing the president’s daughter’s clothing line. All in all, a pretty tough day in the world of Trump.

In a highly anticipated decision, the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals unanimously rejected a Trump administration appeal to reinstate the immigration and refugee travel ban—seen by many as a Muslim ban. It couldn’t have gone worse for the administration. See the entire opinion here.

Trump himself as expected lashed out at the decision.

SEE YOU IN COURT, THE SECURITY OF OUR NATION IS AT STAKE!

Trump’s choice to fill that final Supreme Court seat made news of his own Thursday. Judge Neil Gorsuch told both Republican and Democratic senators that he thought the president’s criticism of the judiciary, “demoralizing” and “disheartening.” Trump spokesman Sean Spicer (who has his own issues) made it a point to say Gorsuch wasn’t talking about a specific court case. Ok, let’s stipulate to that (although it does appear he was talking about the travel ban case). Gorsuch was still talking about Trump criticizing the judiciary. It doesn’t matter under what circumstance.

It’s very possible that Gorsuch’s comments were calculated to show his “independence” and thereby make his own case for confirmation more palatable to Democrats. Trump for his part, blamed the media (natch) and Connecticut US Sen. Richard Blumenthal, saying they misrepresented Gorsuch’s words. Even Gorsuch’s White House representative confirmed the judge’s comments.

As if all of this wasn’t enough, top presidential advisor Kellyanne Conway ended up pitching Ivanka Trump’s fashion line.

It started when Trump tweeted about the Nordstrom’s department store decision to yank Ivanka’s line from his stores:

My daughter Ivanka has been treated so unfairly by . She is a great person — always pushing me to do the right thing! Terrible!

The tweet was later retweeted on the official presidential Twitter account.

FOX News Anchor Shepard Smith noted that Conway has been “counseled” by the White House.

Conway was asked about it and on live television declared she was giving “a free commercial” and urged viewers to go buy Ivanka’s merchandise online. The Republican chairman of the Government Oversight Committee has a problem with Conway’s pitch.

It’s Day 20 in Trump paradise. Think about that.
