Every Memorial Day weekend I make it a point to visit the Boston Common where there is a rather stunning site of dedication and remembrance. It causes one to take pause, reflect and be thankful for those who gave their lives for our opportunity to live ours we way we do.
This weekend, the Massachusetts Military Hero Fund places some 37,000 flags on the common for every person from the state who died in combat going all the way back to the Revolutionary War.
This year, the group added 300 flags on the bottom part of the hill which is dedicated to those who died since September 11, 2001. When the final flag was placed Friday, a single soldier played taps.
How wonderful it would be if they never had to place another flag in the sea of flags.
